Introduction

On February 26, 2025, Caraga Regional Science High School (CRSHS) in Surigao City witnessed a significant
milestone as the groundbreaking ceremony for its new covered court, the Summit Dome, took place. The event
was graced by Engr. Larry M. Heradez represented by Community Relations personnel Mary Luz E. Pomoy of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. XIII, marking the beginning of a transformative project set to enhance the school’s facilities.
This endeavor is the fruit of a collaborative effort between the Taganito HPAL Nickel Corporation (THPAL),
represented by Deputy Plant Manager Tatsuya Kano, and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte, led by
Governor Robert Lyndon S. Barbers. Vice Mayor of the City Government, Atty. Alfonso S. Casurra who also lent
his support to the event, marking the beginning of a project that promises to reshape the school’s future. Dr.
Marilou B. Dedumo, Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Maria Ruth R. Edradan, School Principal IV of CRSHS,
along with Assistant Principal Myrna Y. Gijapon and Assistant School Head Dr. Mark Anthony T. Bangao, joined
the occasion, together with the esteemed faculty members and students, whose hopes for this project are now
being realized.

At a Glance

More than just a physical structure, the new Summit Dome is not just simply a covered court; it is a beacon of
progress, symbolizing the school’s resilience in the face of adversity. The original covered court, tragically
destroyed by the onslaught of Super Typhoon Odette in 2021, left a significant gap in the school’s infrastructure.
After years of waiting the school’s urgent need for support was met through THPAL’s contribution, part of its
Social Development and Management Program for 2025 which is poised to elevate the educational experience
at CRSHS, enriching not only academic pursuits but also fostering the overall well-being and growth of its
students ensuring a convenient space that nurtures both physical and intellectual development which advocates
for inclusive, equitable quality education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Weaving Stories

The realization of the Summit Dome holds an enigmatic insignia for the school, particularly for both students and
teachers who will benefit from it. During heavy rains, the covered court will offer a safe and sheltered
environment where activities can continue uninterrupted. A much-needed space for midday outdoor activities. In
a region known for its intense heat, this facility will provide a shaded area where students can engage in physical
education and recreational activities without the risk of heat exhaustion. Teachers will also benefit from the
added comfort, as the space will allow them to hold outdoor activities, team-building exercises, or school-wide
events in a setting that prioritizes health and safety, even during the hottest part of the day

No longer will classes, sports events, or any extracurricular activities be delayed or canceled due to the
unpredictable weather conditions that often disrupt learning and physical environment. The Summit Dome
ensures that the school’s commitment to a well-rounded education can proceed in any weather, fostering an
environment that nurtures both the academic and physical well-being of the learners.

Truly, the Summit Dome is a testament to the power of collaboration, resilience, and stands as a lasting legacy
for future generations of prospective enrollees who will walk through its doors. Through this shared vision, the
school is better equipped to serve its students and provide an educational setting where they can thrive, no
matter the weather.
The groundbreaking concluded joyfully, with smiles on everyone’s faces as they looked forward with hope to the
future dome to rise.
